Designing a state-of-the-art indoor sports venue requires more than just aesthetic vision; it demands rigorous technical planning and a deep understanding of commercial building codes. For our latest indoor Cricket Facility project, Catch Studio delivered a comprehensive suite of interior design and permitting services, transforming a massive warehouse space into a high-performance, fully compliant athletic center.
The most complex permitting hurdle for this project was navigating life safety codes regarding fire escapes and occupancy across a massive, unbroken footprint. Because regulation cricket requires exceptionally long playing lanes, standard travel distance rules for fire exits are difficult to apply.
Main Floor Dynamics: Features 8 regulation cricket pitching and batting lanes equipped with Gabba Sporting Products synthetic turf and partition netting. The main floor also integrates exercise areas, locker rooms, training spaces, retail accessory space, reception, administrative offices, and waiting/TV areas.
We developed a code-compliant site and egress plan accommodating a total calculated occupancy load of 235 persons (197 on the main floor and 38 on the mezzanine). By analyzing the installed sprinkler system, our architectural team mapped maximum exit travel distances, fire egress pathways, and roll-up door locations. This strategic layout ensured safe emergency evacuation without compromising the size or functionality of the playing field.
Structural Framing & Finishes: The build utilizes wood stud wall assemblies (including 1-hour fire-rated partitions), precise beam modifications, and structural column preservation. Finishes include commercial-grade rubber flooring, non-slip ceramic tiles, laminate, painted gypsum wallboard, and quartz countertops. Stairway assemblies feature exact tread/riser dimensions framed by powder-coated steel handrails and glass guardrails.
Reflected Ceiling & Electrical: Detailed drywall ceiling heights accommodate optimized LED lighting schedules, tailored for high-visibility sports tracking.
Plumbing & ADA Accessibility: We outlined code-required plumbing fixture counts for all water closets and lavatories based on occupancy. The design features highly detailed ADA restroom layouts including precise lavatory clearances, tactile/Braille wall signage, support bars, ADA parking access routes.
